Kurt Vonnegut’s Speech

Here is an incredibly funny and incisive 1970s speech by Kurt Vonnegut that is in the pacifica radio archives. It is a matter of social concern that we don’t have writers and journalists like Vonnegut or Molly Ivins or even Tim Russert anymore in the US to address the steady stream of bullshit that is both culture and media.

Kurt Vonnegut on the American Dream:

“The American Dream has come true for me. I made 71, 000 dollars this year. And as I understand it, that is the American dream I think. And if that wasn’t, there is a little dab of whipped cream on top: I am to be the commencement speaker at Bennington College.”
