Spring Break: The Illusion

Last week was technically spring break, though for teachers, there is no spring break. We work more intensely during spring break because we don’t teach–we get an awful lot done during the so-called spring break. Anyway, I have been getting emails from students all day today who forgot to do all kinds of things over the break–homeworks, extra credits etc. Okay, boys and girls, okay. This is your friendly Sunday night reminder that spring break, alas, is over. It is over. Go back to your syllabi, read everything, and come to class prepared, okay? Spring break is an illusion.

Here is a beautiful Japanese poem to put it into perspective:

I may live on until

I long for this time

In which I am so unhappy,

And remember it fondly. – Fujiwara No Kiyosuki

We read The Tale of the Genji tomorrow. See you then.
