First real snowfall of the year

Although I like the idea of christmas, I usually find the constant reminder of white christmas on television, radio and the newspapers too much, especially the endless christmas and winter songs. Christ was born in ancient Palestine where there was no snow. Besides, December 25th as Christ’s nativity is a convention of the western church; nowhere in the Bible is it said that Christ was born on December 25th. So the white christmas is a nice idea, and not a real requirement for me. But as far as I am concerned, there are two absolutely non-negotiable requirements for Christmas. One, you must eat constantly. Every time you walk past the kitchen counter or the dining table, there must be food within your reach.  Foods like different kinds of cheeses and crackers, olives, celery, carrots, crab dip, grapes, dumplings, chocolate, cookies, bread and butter, small bite sized pieces of fried fish, chicken and cheese quesadillas, little smokie sausages, bacon, pieces of ham, apples, oranges, tangerines, different types of nuts. In other words, you must snack constantly throughout the day. There will be proper food, like any other day, but what is special about christmas is that you will snack the whole day through. You will become like those cows and other cattle who graze in the pasture all the livelong day.

The other requirement is that you must watch endless number of movies, one after the other, the whole day. I loathe television and never watch it. But for christmas, you must be constantly logged into your PS3 or other streaming devices and must watch movies endlessly from netflix, amazon, hulu blah blah blah.

I have done both of these things both yesterday and today. Ammu and noni and kunji are here, and we spent the christmas day with the Strattons. Around one this afternoon, I was at the grocery store getting more things to snack on when it started snowing, the first real snowfall of the year; white christmas, after all. It is beautiful, really. There is a lot of snow on the ground and it took me about thirty minutes to come up the hill from the grocery store; I was driving on faith. Incredible. D and Noni played in the snow and made a snowman.
