2010 Literature Nobel Prize: Mario Vargas Llosa

2010 Nobel Prize for literature to Mario Vargas Llosa. I am very pleased; in some ways in popular barometer he always lagged behind other giants of the South American fiction such as Borges, Marquez, Saramago or even Fuentes and Cortazar. I highly recommend The Green House which for me as well as for many others I am sure is his best work.  I also really like Aunt Julia and the Scriptwriter–very funny and sad novel with all kinds of interesting digressions and bypasses intersecting human encounters. It was made into a movie with Barbara Hershey and Peter Falk–Tune in Tomorrow. Great soundtrack too. Very funny movie–I just love Peter Falk–I feel like seeing it again! Remember those radio plays? They were so popular in India when we were growing up. Wonderful movie! “On a sultry day in July eminent New Orleans socialite and brain surgeon . . .”
